Adventures of 2 Griswolds and 2 River Babes

Nancy & Gaye head out of B'ham, in Mike's pickup pulling the 6x12 U-Haul, at 5:30am. Yes, we hit Cruisin Coffee first (only place open that early on a Saturday).

Rusty & Audrey (Greg's dogs, named after characters in his favorite movie of all time: Vacation) are in back of pick-up, with the pass through windows open. Audrey, perfect princess that she is, settles in on her bed and goes to sleep. Russ - hmmm, not so much!

Fortified with lattes, bagels, grapes (can't find where g packed the cr. cheese) we hit the road. MapQuest says 11.5 hrs to our day #1 destination of Jerome, Idaho. We expect 12.5 hrs. with stops, and pulling the trailor.

O.M.G. g is NOT use to being passed! How irritating to be the slow pokes in the right lane. OK, M, we love you for loaning the pickup - but we fill up more often than we pee (which is quite a lot).

Geez, on I-90 we are even passed by a rubber ducky and a _____ (truck hauling those things kids ride on outsidee K-Mart). Yep, we are now officially "truckers" and have decided we need to get customized handles for our important communications.

Our day #1 unforgetable visions:

  1. Bubba in Cammo
  2. Creative names of towns or roads: Notso, Plano, Bliss (wasn't), Cement Plant Rd (yep, it was that ugly), and Power Plant Road.I
  3. g had incredible timing when turning over driving duties to n....within minutes of n taking over we always entered narrow construction zones!
  4. g is now "jammer" - new handle....working on one for n
  5. n picked out great audio books for our entertainment. We got hooked on fun story titled "Playing for Pizza".....inserted disc 3, m's truck not happy with this book and has eaten the disc. Won't play it and won't eject......gonna get ugly soon.
  6. we stopped for gourmet lunch of salad at the Golden Arches, return to truck to find Rusty in front seat! Who would have thought a dog that is HUGE (german shephard on steroids) could fit thru that tiny window! Audrey did not even wake up until we yelled at R, she then gave us the look that said; "see, I am the good one". m's truck will need interior detailing, dogs drool
  7. Janice, you sly fox, you teased us with visions of beauty from ___ to____, to see a dead skunk would have thrilled us! Not even much vegetation.
  8. I am desperately trying to find something redeeming about Idaho but 165 miles into the state I am still searching. We are staying in Jerome - Walmart and Little Caesar's Pizza seem to be the rocking spots in this town. The best thing about Jerome is that we can rest our weary heads, have a glass (okay, a bottle) of wine, partake in some Little Caesar's Pizza and dream we are in the piazza in Siena!
  9. The dogs are sleeping on their beds between our beds. We hope we don't wake up to their bodily noises or other excretions during the night. I am afraid I might step on them as I get up during the night thereby causing quite an uproar.
  10. The day is over. I have taken my sleeping aid and just waiting for that to kick in. Jerome - it's been nice but it is time to shut our eyes to your high life and call it a day. Maybe you will look better in the morning but then again, maybe not!! It could be like aging prostitutes who always look better under the cloak of darkness!

  2. Alligator A piece of tire on the road, usually a recap from a blown tire, which can look like an alligator lying on the road. These alligators are hazards which are to be avoided, if possible. If you run over them, they can "bite you" -- bounce back up and do damage to hoses or belts, fuel crossover lines, or to the body of your tractor. They can also bounce up and go towards another vehicle, possibly causing an accident. A baby alligator is a small piece of tire, and alligator bait is several small tire pieces. Sometimes called just a "gator". Maybe N's name should be "Gator Dodger"?????
